Coming Soon: American Apparel

By Silver Springer • Mar 16th, 2006 • Category: Business and Economic Development

Word on the street is that American Apparel will be coming to downtown Silver Spring this spring. The clothing store whose apparel is made in downtown LA according to their website will be filling the vacant space at the corner of Fenton and Colesville where the old rug store used to be.

This will be American Apparel’s second location in the State of Maryland and the D.C. area, the other locations being Federal Hill in Baltimore City and Lincoln Square in Washington, D.C.

Commentary: Silver Spring seems to have a knack for attracting reputable retail known in other parts of the country or new to the D.C. area. For example Restaurants like Eggspectation has one of two locations in all of the U.S. here in Silver Spring, the popular Warren Brown’s Cakelove has opened it’s second location in Silver Spring as well, LA Fitness is opening it’s first location in Maryland in a building under construction on Cameron Street while Z-Pizza decides that Maryland is finally worthy enough for them to open 2 locations in Silver Spring and Rockville.

  1. AA is a great brand, that uses union labor here in the US. It’s good to see them coming to SS and bringing something more to the street scene than restaurants. Diversity in every sense of the imagination is one of the keys to a city’s longevity. Long live Silver Spring!

  2. Wow. I don’t know what to think. I can’t imagine a trendy (albeit socially responsible) retailer where the old rug store used to be. Oh, well. Que sera, sera.

  4. I guess time will tell. It really isn’t that trendy. The clothes are very plain and minimal. Here’s to its success!
