Springfield Wants to Be Like Silver Spring

Known largely for its highway mixing bowl, officials in Springfield, Va. are gearing up to create a sense of place instead of a place to get lost. “I want to be like Silver Spring” is the plan to turn Springfield into a walk able urban area with mixes of office, residential and retail.

Commentary: It’s cool that the Washington Post refers to Silver Spring as a miniature city along with Bethesda but it’s a stretch to put Tysons Corner in the same category. With being too spread out and more of an office park, life isn’t worth risking crossing route 7 and metro isn’t even there yet. The Arlington corridors would have been a better example.
