Reminiscing Recessionary Times

Candidates for County Executive try to appease slow growth advocates in the coming election. Slow growth advocates (whatever that means) seem to forget a year called 1994 and the period between the late 80’s to early 90’s., short-term memory perhaps? This was a recessionary time in the county when you couldn’t pay an employer to move into one of the office buildings in Bethesda and the county is still trying to recover. Choosing between a healthy county and a stagnating-dead one is such a difficult choice to make!

  1. I love all the NIMBYs who advocate slow growth.
They got their homes so forget everyone else who needs affordable housing.
That being said, we need smart growth, sustainable growth, and more housing then just luxury condos. We also need business to keep people sepnding their money in the area, not just sleep.

  2. Right! They also forget that their house was built by a developer too and in most cases they contributed to sprawl, traffic problems and stress on infrastructure!

  3. Just so you know the whole “bling bling silver spring” has been around for years, not really anything new there… also the correct way to spell the city to a friend would be- $ilver Bling, MD.

  4. That question to Mr. Abdo was mine. I just thought he might want to go in more detail, but he had Dana respond for him. I don’t think that it means more gentrification, just more revitalization. They don’t have to fully go hand in hand.

  5. Pennster: I was just poking fun, the revitalization has been good for the most part. I do wish they would have went into more detail though, that was a generic answer.

As for Silver Bling that’s news to me. We didn’t say that back in the day.
