Silver Spring Scene News Round Up

“Birchmere May Branch Into Silver Spring” proclaims the Washington Post. I thought the press release pretty much made it official, it’s just a matter of players dragging their feet or not. In a change of the way things are usually done, I find it interesting how the developer is the one donating the land to the government. The project was rumored to cost $6 million from the county. They seem to have trim the costs by $2 million, that helps a lot.
EagleBank Moves into Old Court House
EagleBank is moving to a bigger location in Silver Spring. I’ve seen that old court house under renovation and always say to myself “what an inefficient use of space”. That building is too small and a waste of such a prime piece of realestate. Is it historic or something? I don’t think so since they altered the building facade so much.

I saw this just a few minutes ago: a huge sign hanging from the front of the old JC Penney building saying “The Future Home of The Birchmere”…followed by something about great music. Hallelujah.
Also saw a developement application sign in front of the old Jemal building that is was to be converted to a 280-something room hotel…anyone know anything about this?
Where exactly did you see the sign?
The Birchmere sign was hanging directly over the Colesville Road entry to the JC Penney building and the the other one is just up the street in front of 8728 Colesville Road (easily visible from the street).
