Up Goes the Cranes and a Skyline Change

By Silver Springer • Sep 28th, 2006 • Category: Uncategorized

The Silver Spring Gateway is putting up not one but two cranes. If you cared to read, this project made the worst list on Silver Spring Scene’s Rating the Projects. Numerous cut backs through various submittals left the community hanging. The bases of the cranes are already in and as of today the vertical portion of the black crane is already in. A temporary covered walkway is being put in place next to the arts alley.

The photo above was taken a few days before the setup, you can see the black crane in the foreground and the blue crane in the background.

Silver Spring Gateway will not be condos but apartments…better yet at most less than half will be condos. Does mixing condos and aprtments really work out? Not from what I’ve heard through competing developers. As of now there is no sales office and JBG has not updated their website or established one to reflect this project.

  1. Ah no. Condos and rentals don’t work well together especially if you are a condo owner.

The Gateway should lease 100 percent of their units. If anything, the Gateway will be good competition for The Blairs.

  2. The crane is an eyesore, but you should see that thing glow in a lightening storm!

  3. I suspect the Gateway will cost much more than the Blairs.

Oooooh, something in SS that costs more money! Don’tcha just hate it, yuppiehater?

  4. I think the crane is wicked cool!

What is the height of the project? It must be quite large for it to require a crane.

  5. The cranes are so tall! I can’t say whether I think they are good or bad. But they do put me in awe as I drive past them going to work.

  6. I see the cranes from my window. I had no idea this thing would be this tall…I was thinking it would be a squat little four story thing.

Too bad about the grocery store being gone. I’d love to see the Blair Park Giant get run out of business. That dump.

  7. This is a huge project and will be 143′ft.
