Rockville Rips Off Silver Spring

By Silver Springer • Nov 15th, 2006 • Category: Uncategorized

Do you see anything wrong with this picture? Apparently Rockville has decided to put up their own fountain in the new Rockville Town Center project. Good for them, but the problem is that it looks exactly like our very own Downtown Silver Spring:Silver Plaza Fountain. Silver Spring must be flattered but could they be any less creative? I certainly hope this is strictly for rendering purposes.

“So what if they steal a good idea? 99.9% of visitors (who just happen to go to both RTC and DTSS will never pick up on the similarity. Does anyone really think that the fountain in DTSS is unique?

Soooo it’s OK for Rockville to make an exact duplicate?

I thought distinction was a main characteristic of these “Town Centers” (hate that term)? They could have even been a lot more imaginative, even something different than a fountain.

  2. Is that an astro turf green space behind the fountain? Now I’m jealous!

  3. How do you know it will be an exact duplicate? All we have to go on is the fountains appearance as illustrated in the conceptual rendering. Even if the rendering were close to the final thing (it in all likelihood is not), it is difficult to discern much of anything other than water, some jets and colorful tile. You can find that in thousands of fountains around the world.

  4. Next thing you know, Rockville will be trying to erect a giant nut. Maybe a cashew or walnut, just to be SLIGHTLY different.

  5. I’ll bet I Hate Yuppies must be steaming in his/her shoes over this one. Yuppies copying the designs of yuppie fountains to make yuppie communities nicer to live in while ripping off other yuppie communities?!?! Whazzat?!?!
It’s like introducing Einstein to one of those human conveyer belts in the airport. Now let’s see, you and the belt are moving in relation to the floor and the floor is moving in relation to you and the belt. But if you begin walking on the belt then you are moving in relation to the belt and the floor and vice versa. Oh, and the people walking on the floor beside the belt are moving in relation to you and the belt, but only when you are standing still, otherwise, *wonk!*

  6. Okay.
    That means that…
    our whole solar system…
    could be, like…
one tiny atom in the fingernail
    of some other giant being.

    This is too much!

    That means…
one tiny atom in my fingernail could be–
    Could be one little…
    tiny universe.

Could l buy some pot from you?

    OK Bloggers…name that movie!

  7. Animal House, lines spoken by Donald Sutherland?

  8. Close enough…it was actually said by Larry “Pinto” Kroger (actor Tom Hulce).

Sorry Twoste, I couldn’t resist having fun with your post, especially given my adversarial position on most of ihateyuppies’ views.

  9. Who cares if Rockville takes its designs cues from “Foulgersville.” It is all part and parcel of developers tearing down period structures (Silver Spring Armory)and building Dryvit-covered junk that will turn everything into the United States of Generica.

  10. Copy cats those Rockville people.

    Twoste…you are being obnoxious.

  11. Love it, since I live in ROckville….right now

  12. you bitches are owned.

we elect a tool for gov. and we are talking about fountains? you white people are crazy.

  13. DuuuuddE! I know, O’Malley is a tool! Gawd, I was thinking the same thing on election day.
    We suck.
Umm, I own my own car?

  14. O’Malley is HOT, frickin’ gorgeous. You guys don’t know what you’re talking about. Ask a woman. Hubba hubba.

  15. Jerry McCoy - bashing Downtown Silver Spring and Rockville Town Center as “generica” while ignoring the “generic,” auto-oriented sprawl down the street is failing to see the forest for the trees.

Look, I’m sorry Roadhouse Oldies is kicking the bucket, but the Historical Society people should learn to appreciate Silver Spring for what its present and future and not just for a past that not too many (including myself) can claim to be a part of.

RE: the “generic,” auto-oriented sprawl down the street is failing to see the forest for the trees?????

I don’t ever recall people complaining about auto-oriented sprawl Tyson’s Corner, Eastern Loudon County, Eastern Prince William County, Manassas, and Stafford County.

  20. Yippee! Another big community bidet for little kids!

Seriously, that fountain thing with little kids getting water enemas is nasty…

Oh yeah, and I’m glad the Democrats had big wins. Steele and Condi are owned bitches. Does anyone really believe that poor people will get more money by letting the rich make even more money? That’s just as intelligent as saying we went to Irak for WMDs…

  21. These anonymous postings lead me to suspect that Robin may be blunting the pain of defeat with a large bottle of Jack Daniels.
