What this week has brought us…
â–º Isiah Leggett is sworn in as County Executive.
â–º Montgomery County Council Leader Marilyn Praisner (D-Eastern County)proposes a moratorium on all development in the county — following a similar law passed by Prince William county in Virginia. If you’re eager to put the brakes on all residential development then fine, but why stop commercial development? This is something even less developed Prince William county wasn’t stupid enough to do.
â–º Food and Drug Administration consolidation continues on track and on budget in the White Oak neighborhood of Silver Spring, bringing thousands of jobs to the eastern side of the county. Montgomery County Government has plans for another Life Sciences center in proximity to the new FDA Campus. Washington Adventist is also rumored to open a new hospital close by to replace the facility in Takoma Park. Gaithersburg based Sodexho USA will provide food services.
â–º Charter House will stop paying hotel fees for residents that were displaced when the buildings basement flooded at the Senior Citizen complex.
â–º The Blairs residential complex in Silver Spring will no longer allow smoking. Last year a fire broke out in the 60s era Blair East building causing millions of dollars in damage because the building lacked a sprinkler system.
â–º The high speed crash involving a Honda Accord and Chevrolet Impala at the underpass on Georgia Ave near Sligo Avenue, was said to have been triggered by a high speed chase initiated by D.C. Police. Shawn Ryan Terrill, 24 and Ahmad Givon Glenn, 23, both of Woodbridge,Va were killed in the Honda Accord. Two people from the Accord and Impala were taken to the hospital for injuries.

However, if you read the police report, the two males are identified as black males. Not suprisingly, both have extensive criminal records.
Although many other feel-good liberals would never admit it, crime in this region is OVERWHELMINGLY committed by blacks and latinos (in that order).
The whiter the neighborhood, the safer it is.
How many drive-by shooting happen in Chevy Chase?
Simply b/c blacks and immigrants engage in more criminal activity is not a reason to ignore the behavior or its causes. We should question why that is the case and try to reduce the overrepresentation of minorities in the participation of crime.
I wholeheartedly disagree that liberals would never admit that minorities are overrepresented in the criminal justice system– in fact, liberals have a history of fighting to reduce this overrepresentation.

Minorities are overrepresented in the criminal justice system? That is putting it lightly.
As an African immigrant, I am appalled at how American blacks act. I am even more appalled at how liberal whites attempt to defend/justify why they are so violent.
I grew up in a small town outside of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe (Rhodesia when I was born). My parents were farm workers and we lived in a 3 room house. We didnt have TV, air conditioning, or most of anything that the American blacks have. The farmer my parents worked for had a school on their property. I did well in school and worked very hard. The farmer helped me pay for college in Canada (much easier to get a Visa there). I am now a proud citizen of the United States.
I cannot stand it when people talk about how poor blacks have it very hard.
We need to speak the truth. American blacks are often times very lazy, rude, and refuse to work hard to improve themselves.
Most African immigrants share similar feelings.

You acknowledge that you had a strong family support system and access to good education. These are not things that a lot of poor, minority youth (black, Latino, other immigrants) have.

Of course liberals admit there is overrepresentation of minority populations in the justice system and among crimes committed. That’s the proof we use to try to fix things(remember…liberals like progress aka change), whereas extreme conservatives will point to the info and say what anonymous #3 here said “The whiter the neighborhood, the safer it is” (remember conservatives like things the way they are). There are plenty of safe Latino and black neighborhoods out there.

Death on the Highway
There was more carnage on the streets of Downtown Silver Spring last night, as two unidentified men from Woodbridge, VA were killed when some maniac in an Impala slammed into their car at high speed near the railroad bridge on Georgia Avenue.
One of the men was 24-years-old and was driving the Honda Accord when it was struck by a Chevrolet Impala at about 11:40 p.m, police said. The other man who was killed was 23-years-old and sitting in the Honda’s right rear passenger seat.
Burnett said the Impala was traveling north on Georgia Avenue “at a high rate of speed” when it slammed into the Accord, then careened into the cement base of a railroad overpass. Both cars came to rest near the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Sligo Avenue.
I really hope the MoCo cops have the driver and/or passengers of the Impala in the basement of some police station and are beating them senseless right now. While that may be too much to hope for, the driver better spend the rest of his useless life in prison.
I thought this was a blog about the senseless death of the two young “innocent” men who died for no good reason. They were minding their business driving down Georgia Avenue when some idiot running from the police slammed into their car. It was routine traffic stop because the guy in the Impala was speeding, then he ran and the police chased him. He then slammed into the car of MY friend. My friend Shawn Terrill died for no reason. He was a caucasian male of Puerto Rican Descent. The other person who died was an African American male by the name of Ahmad. They weren’t running from the police or committing any crimes. You people on this blog are racist and I hope you go to hell. I don’t even know how you can live with yourselves, saying that crap without even thinking of what you are saying. The deaths of these young males has devasted hundreds of friends and family including the lives of my small children who viewed Shawn as a big brother. We are in mourning over the loss of these young lives. Think about that the next time you look at yourselves in the mirror.

I try to be open to comments (even if I personally find some atrocious) but now the erroneous, discriminatory, generalized statements about certain racial groups are getting out of control. It sucks that a couple of Elizabeth’s friends died. It sucks more that some of this ranting hurt her feelings even more.

Correction Elizabeth… Shawn is a Puerto Rican male of caucasian descent. If you asked him he would not say he’s white. He would tell you he’s Puerto Rican. I’ve know Shawn for the past 11 years and for something to happen like this to someone who could of really been somebody is tragic. Neither he nor Ahmed deserved this.
Hey Anonymous, I don’t think I need you to correct me. Caucasian refers to the color of one’s skin and I said that because the stupid and racist people on this blog were saying he was black and they were wrong. He is of Puerto Rican descent as I said before. I know of Shawn’s heritage. We are both Puerto Ricans. He is a very proud Puerto Rican as I am. He is a close friend to me and my family. He is my fiancé’s best friend and we continue to mourn the loss of his life. Lets focus on that.
