Rumor Mill: Part Deux
By Silver Springer • Dec 20th, 2006 • Category: UncategorizedAs promised, I said I would reveal what is rumored to transform the historic Silver Spring fire station. A reliable source says an investor made a winning bid with plans to incorporate a brewery into the fire station.
When asked what they thought would fill the fire house the majority of those who voted said a brewery. When asked what they wanted to see most who voted wanted a brewery.
A lot of Silver Springers may be getting what they want this holiday if the polls hold true.

This is good news because it means that Taste of Jerusalem — which is the second best restaurant in the Bethesda/Silver Spring valley — will now have a neighbor that everyone will want to go to, thus generating foot traffic in that area of Georgia Ave.
They couldn’t just leave it as a memento to those who served as part of the long tradition of fire fighters in this country?
Yea, why do that when high-rise condos worth 5000billion dollars that won’t be filled because of the shitty economy can be built.
That or a brewery, which really should be a pot-den, as alcohol is way more harmful in the way it kills. But lets not go into that tangent.
Nice picture, btw =)
This is GREAT news. I think a brewery there would do MAJOR business. WooHoo!
Could Dominion Brewery be looking at this property? They bailed out of the location on Ellsworth. If Dominion is looking to purchase this property, this is a much better location.
Breweries Rock. Better than Old Dominion would be an independently owned brewery (maybe they would actually build it in a timely manner). The Fire Department theme should work well with a brewery…
BTW, “needtsza” sounds baked.
Uh, I know of a good match…
Hmmmm a firefighter-themed brewery down the street from a pirate-themed bar. If 8-year-olds could drink, they’d make a killing!
I would bet it is an established brewery/restaurant chain (that’s really what you’re talking about right? not just a brewery?) such as Capital City or Old Dominion.
The start-up costs for a brewery are quite expensive. This is not as simple as opening a restaurant.
This has Old Dominion, Rock Bottom or Capital City written all over it.
Winners: Anyone living in Silver Spring who enjoys a good beer.
Losers:
McGinty’s by a little.
Quarry House…maybe.
So much chatter over a “rumor”. A brew-pub done right would run $1-2 million to build out, on top of land costs.
Silver Springer, how much more do you know? Is the rumor just very preliminary development interest or much more than that? Do you really know something?
my two cents on the brewery, if it is indeed true . . .
I hope it’s Dogfish Head. Worst case would be Rockbottom.

A little more weight than just a “rumor” but you know I can’t reveal my sources.
” hope it’s Dogfish Head. Worst case would be Rockbottom.”
Exactly what I was thinking. Dogfish head would be the best case scenerio. Rockbottom would be the worst. Their beers are HORRIBLE! I’m hoping that they wouldn’t put in a brewery here, since they are just across town in Bethesda already. Anything else would be good.
Might it be Silver Spring’s own Hook and Ladder Brewing? Seems nobody knows they exist. I didn’t until I found them on the web, even though I enjoy micros and live less than a half mile from their currant locale. I mean it does not take a rocket scientist to see that a true local brewer with their theme would find the old firehouse an appropriate location to expand into, but nobody has mentioned them.
Rumor has it that it IS Hook and Ladder bidding for the building
