â–º Add Oguchi Onyewu to the long list of famous people from Silver Spring, Maryland. The Nigerian born native nicknamed the “Gooch”, came over to the U.S. at an early age and grew up in Silver Spring. Onyewu defended the USA in the FIFA World Cup 2006. Recent headlines from Sports Illustrated reports Onyewu temporarily onboard the Newcastle United till the end of the season.

    We should do an interview with him.
    I’m from Newcastle BTW, so this is all kind of weird for me.

  2. You have the Newcastle connection so if you can get him we’ll interview him together lol!

    My guess is that he lived somewhere around Route 29/Briggs Channey. There is a significant Nigerian population in Silver Spring. :)

  5. Ye McGintys show games Saturday and Sunday on their nice LCd screens - its not advertised so call them up on a Friday. Being a big Arsenal fan i sometimes go but more likely i watch it at home on my secret evil football command center.

  6. Gooch wasn’t born in Nigeria. He was born in MD. His parents are from Nigeria.
