â–º Add Oguchi Onyewu to the long list of famous people from Silver Spring, Maryland. The Nigerian born native nicknamed the “Gooch”, came over to the U.S. at an early age and grew up in Silver Spring. Onyewu defended the USA in the FIFA World Cup 2006. Recent headlines from Sports Illustrated reports Onyewu temporarily onboard the Newcastle United till the end of the season.

My guess is that he lived somewhere around Route 29/Briggs Channey. There is a significant Nigerian population in Silver Spring.
