Hook & Ladder Brewing Company will embark on old Firehouse

Silver Spring based Hook & Ladder Brewing Company has plans to open a bar/restaurant in the old Firehouse #1. Silver Spring Scene first brought the scoop. Recent info reveals that Brothers Rich and Matt Fleischer have purchased the historic firehouse at 8138 Gerorgia Avenue, after several investor bids came forth with plans like a cafe similar to Busboys and poets. Rich Fleischer is a Bethesda firefighter that started the venture in 1999.
In 2001 the Brewing Company took top honors as the gold medal winner in the American wheat style category at the Great American Beer Festival. Hook and Ladder’s Beers are served at over 100 different establishments through out the Baltimore/Washington area.
For every barrel of beer sold, $4.00 goes to the Metropolitan Firefighters Burn Foundation.

_ucking SWEET!
So, hoisting a few pints will really be a charitable act in this case? Yay!
Now they need to think about parking.

Great! We need a few more decent bars in the area. Anything has got to be better than Pirates Taven!
Any word on opening date?
WOW! Friggin’ awesome! (Good scoop, by the way.)
Any word on when it opens for business? Do they serve food?
As someone who has been mourning the departure of the Half Moon BBQ just up the street from the fire station, I’m very excited about this development. The restaurant should help to anchor and bring more foot traffic this stretch of Georgia Avenue which has experienced some retail turnover in recent months. There is a new clothing store in the flower shop space at the corner of Georgia and Silver Spring and the Half Moon is being replaced by Ozzio restaurant and night club.
BEER!
Another place to get $5 beers (Hook & Ladder) and another place to get $10 beers (Ozio). Just what Silver Spring needs!
I want a strip club in downtown SS.
Is the Ozio mentioned above the same ownership, style of the one downtown?
What’s wrong with strip clubs, I Hate Yuppies?
What’s wrong with strip clubs?
What is this $5 beer thing about? Everytime a nice restaurant or brewery is rumored to be coming to Silver Spring, there is always a comment like, “Oh great, a place for yuppies to drink $5 beers!” First of all, I’m sure that Hook and Ladder will have a wide range of beer prices and specials. Second of all, nice restaurants often charge $4 or $5 for beer. How much does a beer cost at Ray’s the Classics, Jackie’s, Red Rock Canyon,Ceviche? If it’s $5, would you say that we’d be better off in Silver Spring without these places? If so, why not just add the Olive Garden, Pizza Hut, Applebee’s, and Bob’s Big Boy to the already crappy couple of chains that we have: Macoroni Grill and Red Lobster? Maybe there should just be a bunch of crappy chains in downtown Silver Spring that serve $3 beer all the time. Would that make you happy? Would it?????!!!!!!!!! Is that what you want??????????!!!!!!!!!!!
Is there documentation about Ozio? And, as posted, is this the same Ozio as in DC?
PS Has Piratz tavern ever started selling beer on draft? Man, what a disappointment.
I’m excited about this but as a beer enthusiast, I have to ask - only a golden ale and a nut brown? Do they make any other styles?
Also, Ihateyuppies, I second the strip club request - maybe if the corset shop on Georgia ever goes under?
I’m curious about Ozio also. Need more info. Someone get on it ASAP!!! thx
I too mourn the loss of Half Moon
However, the restaurant replacing it is great - it is not Ozio, but Olazzo, which has another restaurant in Bethesda (not downtown, but on Norfolk Ave.) It is actually reasonable, good Italian food. No nightclub as far as I know.
