1200 East West Highway Resurrected From the Dead?
By Silver Springer • Mar 29th, 2007 • Category: Real EstateOk, so it’s been over a month since February 22nd when Home Properties held an “intimate†meeting on the Falkland Chase development. Straight from the horse’s mouth, Co-Chairman and Fonder Nelson Leenhouts of Home Properties revealed surprising information that the company had purchased the project at 1200 East West Highway from Centex homes. Home Properties purchased the site plans intact and wants to move forward with apartments instead of condos in which they specialize.
Back in September of last year the Silver Spring Scene reported that the project, then officially known as Cityhomes at 1200 East West was canceled by the former developer Centex homes. The 275,000 sq/ft project would have contained; 247 condominium units including 40 MPDUs, 10,600 sq/ft of retail and 220 parking spaces in a 142’ft 14 story high-rise. Following the annulment of the Silver Spring project, Cityhomes: The Pavilions at Takoma in D.C. and Cityhomes: The Pavilions at Huntington Metro in Alexandria, VA have also been cancelled. The Silver Spring project was the only urban highrise of the group compared to the other four to five story structures.
Three weeks from the day Leenhouts said they would begin demolition of the old mechanic and detail facilities. It’s been over a month and no activity yet.
