Packed Weekend in Downtown
By Silver Springer • May 7th, 2007 • Category: Arts, Food and Entertainment, Business and Economic Development, Government and PoliticsLast weekend was full of back to back events with some occurring at the same time, luckily the weather was just right.
- Kudos to MC-MNCPPC’s planning dept for holding a public meeting at a convenient time. The room was still packed (although still mostly old people). Details on the County growth policy will come later.
- “Once again, live from Silver Spring…”. Discovery held another town hall live discussion with Ted Koppel at their headquarters, this time Lance Armstrong and Elizabeth Edwards made guest appeareances to discuss cancer.
- The “turf wars” continued with a large discussion at the Round House theater. The theater space was completely filled with around 100 people showing up to support the turf or ice skating rink/pavilion. Funny thing is that the supplier of the turf sent a smaple of a higher quality astroturf material (think NFL grade), first class and next day to Evan Glass of South Silver Spring Neighborhood Association. It was displayed by him at the meeting, I’ll have pictures and other exclusive info later.

Hey, no one sent me a turf sample, and I’ve been advocating that stuff for months!
Sligo
You would have LOVED the turf sample — soft, plush, almost like real grass. Much better than the turf we have now. Even a certain District 5 councilmember was overheard saying that she liked it.
Isn’t there an artificial turf somewhere upcounty? Or at Montgomery Blair High School?
I need to replace my lawn with that.
Dude, I’m ready to replace the carpeting in my apartment with that turf.
KEEP THE TURF!
KEEP THE TURF!
KEEP THE TURF!
KEEP THE TURF!
