South Silver Spring Block Party a Blast

An estimated 2000 people showed up to the South Silver Spring Block Party last Sunday afternoon. The South Silver Spring Neighborhood Association (SSSNA) was responsible for putting the event together. SSSNA is a newly formed neighborhood group charting the changes that are going on in South Silver Spring. The event was created to bring a new community together and make them aware of massive amount of activity transforming a once barren area that was primarily industrial.
The association hopes that South Silver Spring transforms into a neighborhood that’s not only condos and apartments but incorporates a mix of uses like retail and office space in an urban fashion.
The day kicked off with a tree planting ceremony in Acorn Park, the origin of Silver Spring. A pink dogwood tree was planted next to the spring, along with a plaque from the association commemorating the neighborhood. $5,000 worth of renovations to the park was made in the coming days to the event. Councilmember Valerie Ervin was present to usher in the new day.

This was a really fun event. Congrats to all the people who made it happen. SSS you did a great job along with the other organizers. I missed the martial arts performance, and looking at the picture above I’m kicking myself even more. Great idea about putting them in the line up. Also the music were nice, I really like the rap group, very profound lyrics. I guess I miss Pieces too, do you have the pictures? Over all wonderful event for the first time around.
