An Old LifeSci Village Rendering

Not sure why the Washington Post is describing it like it’s totally new but Percontee’s “LifeSci Village” is in the news…again.

The land for the Life Sciences PUD (Planned Unit Development) is located along Cherry Hill Road, nestled between Route 29 and New Hampshire areas of Silver Spring.

The proposed project in the very early preliminary stages would be on a 185 acre.

With the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the newly planned Washington Adventist Hospital and the planned East County Incubator all within arms reach would form a biobed critical mass just for Silver Spring.

The great thing about this project is the planned 2 million square feet of office, research and laboratory space, as well as a total 500 affordable housing units out the 2,000 units planned. Similar happenings are occurring at the Johns Hopkins Science + Technology Park in Baltimore City and now under construction.

But projects outside the FDA are slow to come to fruition. Of the approximate 60 million square feet of office space in Montgomery County, a meager 2 million square feet of office space is in Northern Silver Spring while 48 million lies along the I-270/355 corridor (and they wonder why we have traffic problems).
