Silver Spring Advisory Board Wants A Transparent Process
By Silver Springer • Nov 15th, 2007 • Category: Business and Economic Development, Government and PoliticsThe Silver Spring Citizens Advisory Board tabled a letter that would have given support to the County to pursue negotiations with Live Nation on the Silver Spring Fillmore music hall.
Now that another player has come into the picture, the advisory board revoked the previous letter and instead pushed a rewrite that recommends to County Executive Leggett an open bidding process.
Below is a snippet from the letter,
“First, we believe that the County should have a transparent process in determining which company will operate the music venue. Towards that end, we urge you to have substantive discussions with other local music promoters before you finalize any deal. While we have been impressed by and appreciative of the presentations from Live Nation and Lee Development Group, we also have been interested in the offer from IMP and believe their offer should be further explored. In addition, we would like to have a better understanding of why one entity is chosen over another.”

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. At the Woodside Park Civic Association meeting Wednesday evening, County Executive Leggett responded to numerous questions about the Live Nation deal but was adamant that a deal was a deal and that he would now longer consider any other options, saying that the county’s reputation would be damaged if he now tried to cut a deal with someone else.
