Update on Hook and Ladder

By Silver Springer • Nov 19th, 2007 • Category: Arts, Food and Entertainment, Business and Economic Development, News Round Up

Reported first by the Silver Spring Scene last year, by July of next year, Hook and Ladder Brewery and Restaurant should be open for business according Mike Mountain, President.

“Our goal is to open June 1st plus 45 days”

During the Silver Spring Thanksgiving day Parade, Hook and Ladder had all the firehouse garage doors open plenty of chairs setup and “blazing” display towards the rear of the historic facility.

Former Firehouse #1 (with the new one across the street), the first in Montgomery County’s volunteer department will be transformed but at the same time will hold its original character.

Right now Hook and Ladder is headquartered in the Forest Glen area of Silver Spring but Mountain said that they have already begun to move operations into downtown and into the Firehouse with possible expansion in the future.

  1. The image you have is indeed, the logo for Hook and Ladder Brewing Company, but it should link instead to: http://www.hookandladderbeer.com/.

  2. Oops, thanks for that.

  3. While you’re making corrections — It’s Forest Glen (note the one ‘n’).. A singular ‘n’, hah.

  4. I was waiting for someone to point that out! I guess you win the prize!

    What do I win?

  6. I’ll buy you a beer when H&L opens, how does that sound?

  7. This is great news!

The Silver Spring Historical Society has a great archive of photographs documenting downtown Silver Spring’s two (probably) largest fires…July 4, 1949 - the Silver Spring Building Supply Company and September 7, 1958 - the Falkland Mansion (the former was arson, the latter was “controlled burn”).

SSHS hopes to get some of these photos and a few other pieces of SSVFD memorabilia placed in the restaurant.

  8. I look forward to being seated and ordering beer in the Hook and Ladder on June 1 plus 45 days.

  9. My dad and I ate at a firehouse-turned-pub in Erie, PA several years ago and I always thought it would be a great idea to convert the Silver Spring Firehouse when it was vacated by the FD. I’m glad that the owners had the vision to do this. Can’t wait.
