All you gotta do is try your best

By Silver Springer • Mar 7th, 2008 • Category: Business and Economic Development, Government and Politics

So National Public Radio (NPR) says they aren’t coming to Silver Spring, big deal…I’m not sweating it because it really wasn’t about NPR in first place. Replace NPR with ‘X’ organization and you would have seen that logo on my homemade petition banner.

Let’s not forget that ten years ago any recognizable firm would have been [...]

By Silver Springer • Feb 12th, 2008 • Category: Business and Economic Development, Government and Politics, Real Estate

For the past three years Silver Spring has led the primary submarkets in Montgomery County with the lowest office vacancy rate.
According to Transwestern Commercial Services, Silver Spring’s direct vacancy stood at a respectable 5.7% although higher compared to 4.8% in the 3rd quarter of 2007. 10% is commonly known as a healthy equilibrium in a [...]

Peterson at it again

By Silver Springer • Feb 11th, 2008 • Category: Government and Politics

Well here we go, Chip Py and PFA (Peterson Cos, Foulger Pratt, and Argo Investment) are at it again.

I was at the Obama rally cause someone said he might make a surprise appearance but to no avail, I suppose this would be preaching to the choir anyways.
I hope security didn’t get all worked up cause [...]

Fillmore is a County facility in disguise

By Silver Springer • Feb 6th, 2008 • Category: Business and Economic Development, Government and Politics

County executive Leggett emphasized what he wants his constituents to keep in mind about the facility that will act as the Fillmore music hall…the County is paying for it, so we own it and we we’re going to use it.

Hearing Mr. Leggett speak he is particularly vexed at traveling to Prince George’s County for Montgomery [...]

The County Executive Isiah Leggett invited the Silver Spring Scene for a face to face discussion about the soon to be Fillmore Music hall that will be operated by Live Nation.
Writers from Just Up the Pike and the Silver Spring Peguin were there, along with Gary Stith, Director of Silver Spring Regional Center, and Patrick [...]

Will it ever end!!!

By Silver Springer • Feb 4th, 2008 • Category: Business and Economic Development, Government and Politics

First off my condolences to the families of Marilyn Praisner and Gene Lynch, their deaths were truly unexpected.
I didn’t see eye to eye with either on a number of issues but I’m glad I was at least able to talk face to face with Ms. Praisner even though it was in opposition to her [...]

They wont last forever

By Silver Springer • Feb 1st, 2008 • Category: Government and Politics, Real Estate

I can’t help but think that Montgomery County forcefully keeping apartments as apartments indefinitely is asking for long-term problems. One only has to look at Prince George’s County to see the problems that lie particularly in oversupply of garden apartment complexes. No, they are not sole cause of problems but they are incubators for undesirable [...]

Affordable Housing =/= Apartments

By Silver Springer • Jan 31st, 2008 • Category: Government and Politics

Since when did it come to this? I’m hearing a lot of talk from politicians and organizations that apartments are affordable housing. I kind of find it insulting. It’s quite unfair actually, that those just starting out, potential new homeowners, those post baby-boomers are being told “tough luck we’re going to keep you renting “.  What [...]

Discovery Goes Public

By Silver Springer • Dec 14th, 2007 • Category: Business and Economic Development, Government and Politics

Ok so the rumors are true, the day has finally come, and our beloved Discovery is going public. What does this mean? I’m not sure.

The good news is that I’m prepared to buy up lots of company stock. Oh and Maryland will most likely have another Fortune 500 company on its list (“in the open”). I’ve been [...]

Baltimore Concert Hall Owner Puts His Two Cents Into Silver Spring Music Venue Dispute

By Silver Springer • Nov 29th, 2007 • Category: Business and Economic Development, Government and Politics

Dear County Executive Ike Leggett,
I have sat idle for the past several months as discussions unraveled
regarding the Silver Spring music venue dispute. As the headlines
continue to ensue, I feel as though it is now time for me to comment.
It disturbs me that Seth Hurwitz is portraying himself as the “small
guy” in area media. I, along [...]
